What personal experience or observation inspired you (or the owner) to start this NEMT company? Please describe the specific moment you realized there was a critical need in the community that you felt compelled to fill.
Liam (CEO) and Tong (Owner) of the company were driving down in the Twin Cities area one day and saw people waiting outside of a clinic waiting for transportation from their doctor appointment. He happened to speak to a few of these individuals who said they were waiting for over an hour to get home and that sparked an idea for them to start a company to help these people get to and home from their medical appointments and not have to wait for long periods of time. Water's Edge had been established in Waconia, MN since 2006 and the ownership transition took place in 2022 and have continued to serve the area since then faithfully.
Beyond simply getting clients from point A to point B, what is the most important outcome or feeling you want every client to experience during their journey with you? How do your team and drivers work to deliver that specific experience every single day?
We have had a lot of the same drivers for years and that makes our clients feel good when they see the same friendly face they have seen for years coming to get them. Our office staff cares about our clients just the same as our drivers do. When drivers have a busy day and we might not be able to get to someone at their desired time, we have office staff leave the office to go get the client so they don't have to wait and know they are our number one priority.
If you had to describe the one thing that truly sets your service apart from any other transportation option—your "secret sauce"—what would it be? Please share a brief story or specific example that illustrates this difference in action.
The one thing that sets us apart is the amount of pride we take in taking care of our clients as individuals. Waconia is known as a "small town" to some, but it is growing at a rapid rate. Our secret sauce is we create a family feel for our clients and that they are being treated as an individual vs just another ride. We have clients that request certain drivers because of the personal relationship they have created with the driver and they feel safe going to something that can be very vulnerable with a driver that is going to take great care of them.
